5 Indian Kitchen Ingredients That Actually Work for Hair — With the Science to Prove It

Beyond Vitamin C, Amla contains tannins and flavonoids with documented anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Studies have shown Amla extract to inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase — the same enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, the androgen most associated with pattern hair loss.

The traditional practice: Amla oil, or amla in warm coconut oil, applied to the scalp weekly. The research basis for this ritual is solid.

2. Methi (Fenugreek Seeds) — Protein and Nicotinic Acid
